At this time of the year, there are lots of articles and television specials about the past year, which name the best, the the worst, or the most interesting events. This has gotten me thinking about this year from my perspective. It was quite a year, with a lot of changes. Below is one post per month, what I deem to be the biggest event of each month (or at least the most interesting post). Please check them out so you can get an appreciation for why this was the most exciting (and exhausting) year I have ever had.
We had car problems.
We climbed 680 steps to the top of Oakbrook Tower.
I broke a tooth (post includes picture!)
I recorded a podcast while running the Shamrock Shuffle 8k.
We spent Memorial Day weekend biking Lakeshore Drive, going to a chocolate festival, and visiting Milwaukee.
We had more car problems.
I had a scary wedding dream.
We moved to suburbs, after I had lived in the city for six years. It was hard to say goodbye.
We got married.
We went to Hawaii.
We adopted Jiblets Kitty Pie.
I contemplated how much cats are like children.
So what will 2007 bring? We are going to be staying in the same apartment, because I told Prince E I cannot move again until I forget the pain the last move caused. The pain still lingers, so we aren't going anywhere. I am hoping to start doing podcasts again, if only for my own benefit (and my mom who is a devoted fan). Every year since I was about seven, I have had the same New Year's resolution: Don't worry so much. I really doubt I will ever be able to keep that one, but I do hope that I will learn how to relax a little more in the upcoming year. I want to start running again, which is easier said than done. We are planning a spring trip to Washington DC. I would like to try to start saving money for a house, but I have a spending problem. Overall, though, I just hope that 2007, the year in which I shall turn 30, is a happy year for me, the Prince, and the kitties.
Thanks to Betty and Kiki, I have a few wedding photos to show off.
Here is our first dance:
Our wedding was Hawaiian themed and we had a suprise performance of Hawaiian dancers who performed several dances and then taught all the guests how to hula. I was very happy with the number of people who participated in the lesson.
This photo is the day after the wedding, when I wore my wedding dress again on the dune buggy ride.
Tomorrow we leave for Hawaii!
Yesterday I got married. And guess what? The SUN CAME OUT!
It was raining and cloudy both Thursday and Friday. It was sprinkling all morning. Then a half an hour before the wedding, the sun came out. So pretty. Everything went well, but of course there were minor glitches here and there.
(like the DJ mispronouncing our name in our introduction, even after three people helped him learn it and wrote it down phonetically for him. It isn't even that hard of a name; and the caterers only giving people a tiny sliver of our fabulous wedding cheesecake, and leaving more than half of it left over. It was fine, though, because we all had some more later on in the evening back at the Inn)
Everyone looked so pretty and I was so happy that so many friends and family couldn't make it. I got two sweet text messages from my good friend RussianLlama back in Chicago who could not make it because of the whole recent giving birth thing. But I know her and her husband (and the baby) were here in spirit.
I hope to post some pictures at some point, if anyone took any that don't have actually people in them.
Today was the Simba’s Mom/Prince E 1/2k Run/Walk. It was fun. My 4 year old nephew one. I wore a purple boa and Prince E wore a purple crown.
During my manicure today, there was a tornado warning. Actually it was a water spout. It never even stormed or anything where I was, though, and no tornadoes ever touched down. Don’t tell anyone, but even Prince E got a manicure. He enjoyed it, too.
Then we went on a paddle-wheel boat ride. The weather was chilly, so we were the only ones on the boat! Much cheaper than a charter. The boat usually goes from the Kalamazoo River into Lake Michigan, but as you can see, Lake Michigan was a bit rough and we had to turn around.
In the evening we ordered in pizza from a local place and had "wedding pie" from Achatz bakery. Very yummy. Forecast for tomorrow is showers and storms.
We arrived in Michigan yesterday afternoon after a rain-filled drive in our fabulous (rented) minivan. The sun came out about an hour after we arrived. It is rather chilly here, though. They already have the tent out for Saturday and I watched the installation of the dance floor. Only immediate family is here now. Many other guests will arrive today. We have a boat ride planned, as well as a little pizza party get together tonight. This morning I am getting a manicure/pedicure. That is, of course, after the inaugural "Simba's Mom/Prince E Wedding Run/Walk" that my family planned. It should be a lot of fun if it doesn't rain. They even made race shirts!
Last night we had the rehearsal dinner at a place that we have been to at least five times and always had good experiences with. Although it was pretty empty, we had poor service. They really should have had two servers for our table, because we had 15 people. I was getting cranky waiting for my drink order to be taken and then waiting for my food. I nearly broke out the brownies I had made for dessert. Then the waitress said, "Oh is this for someone's birthday?" I was wearing a button that said "bride" and Prince E had a "groom" one on.
After dinner, my mom, my sisters, one brother-in-law, Prince E, and the best man all went to a bar for a low-key bachelor/bachelorette party. There were only two other patrons, but that was fine with me. I had no plans to go around saying "kiss the bride" or anything.
Although this is usually a "clean" blog, I cannot help but post the following picture. My matron of honor/sister got me assorted penis-gear (penis mardi gras beads, penis candy, etc.). At the bar, I passed around some "dick tarts" to everyone to try. My other sister did not like the taste and spit out. It is a sad sight:
Don't tell anyone, but my inner soccer mom is really digging the minivan we rented for the weekend.
It has stow and go seating! And sliding doors on both sides!! And it fits so much stuff!
Leaving tomorrow for Michigan. Hoping to blog a little while I am there because the Inn has wi-fi. Of course I will be rather busy with rehearsal dinner, boat ride, wedding, dune buggy ride. And enjoying a whole weekend of time with my friends and family, many of whom I have not seen in far too long.
I am getting married in three days.
I am sick.
I sneeze.
I sniffle.
I cough a little.
I blow my nose.
My nose is a little red.
Fun stuff.
I tried to tell myself for the first couple of days that it wasn't a real cold and I was just imagining that I had a cold, since Prince E had his cold last week. It is hard to keep pretending with snot dripping from my nose. (You are welcome for that lovely visual image!!)
In other news, Prince E's white tuxedo jacket had a stain on it so they have to order a new one. Not sure how that one slipped by quality control. They are having it shipped to a store location in Michigan near our wedding locale. It if doesn't come in he can always wear the ring bearer's jacket. It is much too small, but as least it is the same color.
I leave for Michigan one week from today to begin the "Fabulous Wedding Weekend." I imagined at this point I would be insanely stressed out. Except I am not really freaking out. I am insanely calm.
I have been avoiding my almost-husband all week because he has a cold. This has been difficult and I have nearly almost kissed him several times.
I had to change the salad course for the wedding. Don't worry, guests, I will no longer be serving you possibly tainted with E.Coli yummy spinach salad with strawberries. I was so looking forward to it, too. I used to inhale spinach like it was my job. At one point in my life, not that long ago, I would eat baby spinach out of the bag, the way most people eat potato chips. I could not get enough. Luckily for me and my intestines, I got off the spinach kick a few months ago. Now I am back on the french fry kick. It will give me heart disease and make me fat, but at least no E.Coli.
Prince E's mom arrives from the Philippines on Monday. I have not yet met her. Hopefully she likes me and doesn't kidnap Prince E and take him back home with her because I am incapable of keeping a clean house and I do not cook. I plan to clean a lot on Sunday in prepration for her arrival.
I am silly and working all three days I am in town next week. I do not know why I did this. Although at this point there is not really anything left to do in terms of preparation, so I might as well be at work.
Nine days, people. And I will be Mrs. Prince E.
(Or Princess E? Hmm. Will he be Husband E? Although I made the decision about changing my real life name, will our blog names be changing too? I can't believe I haven't thought of this yet! Suggestions?)
