Today Jiblets turns 2! Here are three photos: when we first brought him home, his first birthday, and today:
Mom, seriously, stop reading. You don't want to hear this story because it will give you nightmares. Trust me. Don't say I didn't warn you.
The weather is absolutely balmy today, at above 40. After weeks of temperatures hovering around zero, it feels like summer. The cats were happy to have the temperatures return to a tolerable level, because that means that they can go out onto the balcony (which we have screened in with chicken wire to prevent escape).
I was sitting here working and started writing an e-mail to Prince E to tell him how happy Jiblets looked to be out on the balcony watching the birds fly around; they too must be enjoying the weather.
Then, it happened. I saw Jiblets come in from the balcony carry a dead bird in his mouth. I screamed I think. I think I even said, "Jiblets!!" as though he would know he was being naughty and take it back outside. He carried it all the way to the other couch and then started walking back toward me.
Then the "dead" bird flew at me. And circled my head. I definitely screamed then. I was so distracted by my own freak-out, that I am not exactly sure how Jiblets managed to end up with the bird in his mouth again, but he did.
I ran out onto the balcony to call Prince E at work. I mean, I had no idea what to with a probably (for real this time) dead bird in my apartment. How would I get it away from Jiblets? I knew I didn't want him to eat it, because it could make him sick. I hoped Prince E might provide some guidance.
I got a hold of Prince E and started talking excitedly, "JilbletsfuckingbroughtafuckingbirdintothehouseandIthoughtitwasdeadandthenitflewaroundmyheadandhecaughtitagain." Prince E said, "What, something's burning?" As I relayed the story again, slower this time, the "dead" bird flew out of the balcony door.
I immediately ran inside and slammed the door shut.
It took 10 minutes for my heart to stop racing.
Prince E said, "Are you sure you are alright? Because I have been trying hard not to laugh."
In retrospect, I really wish I hadn't freaked out and had grabbed the camera instead. Would have made a great video.
We had a lovely New Year's Eve, as you may have noticed from the parade of phone photos I sent to the blog on Monday. We dropped the cats at the vet in the morning for their second ringworm dip (actually it is a lime/sulfur dip, they are not actually being dipped in ringworm) and headed to the Museum of Science and Industry to see the Star Wars exhibit.
I enjoyed the exhibit a lot, although I thought there were too many artifacts from Episodes 1-3. I did like seeing my secret boyfriend Chewbacca.
After the museum, we went to check out a Hawaiian restaurant called Aloha Eats that Prince E heard about on Check, Please! I am so glad that we went for one tremdenously wonderful reason: They had POG:
Some of you may recall that when I went to Hawaii last year, I drank POG everyday. While it was in a can this time and not fresh, I did not care. It brought me indescribable joy. As I sit here there is a second can sitting in my refrigerator calling to me. I have not had it yet, because I like knowing it is there for the taking.
The food was also quite good and I had the Chicken Katsu with rice (I substituted fries for macaroni salad). It was a traditional Hawaiian plate lunch except for the fries. If you happen to go, that portion is the mini size. They also have a regular size which would be way too much food for me. As it was, I brought some of the chicken home. Prince E had Spam and eggs and we were both happy campers.
On the way back to the car, I had a celebrity sighting of sorts! I saw Mouse and Dice, walking down the street arm in arm! Of course, the big chicken that I am, I didn't say anything. After we passed them, I said to Prince E, "I totally know them! Well, sort of!"
We headed back to suburbia and picked up three stinky kitties at the vet. The tech tried to convince me that Simba was now also developing signs of ringworm (his dips were precautionary), but the "missing hair" that she spoke of has been missing from his ear for at least 6.5 years. Probably longer, I just didn't know him then. I even went back and looked at old photos, found the offending spot, and said, "See! See!" to no one in particular. So he will not be getting anymore dips. The other two cats are not so lucky.
For the second year in a row, I did not even bother staying up to midnight to ring in the new year and was asleep by 10:30. I saw the fireworks on television from Australia and figured that counted.
Look what I caught the cats doing today!
Eggy takes after me. She has spilled her water bowl several times and today knocked over the freezie cup of water for the second day in a row. For some reason she likes to check the temperature of the water with her paw before drinking, which usually ends with the water on the floor.
I love how in this video she just steps over the mess that she made and goes on with drinking.
By the way, if you clicked that link above for "freezie cup", you saw the picture of little Jiblets from a year ago. I can't believe he was ever that little. Here are a couple of picture of him with his best friend Eggy.
And this last picture is just funny:
Chicagoland, Illinois (AP): Princess Eggatha Sapphire Kitty ("Eggy") was released today after a two week stint in quarantine as a result of a parasite infestation. After being given the all clear from the vet tech, Eggy was sprung from her cell, also known as the master bedroom.
When asked for comment, Eggy bounded around the living room, saying "Meow Meow!" She was later seen chasing her older brother Simba Pumpkin Kitty, while simultaneously being chased by her other brother, Jiblets Kitty Pie.
Further updates when they become available.
